Welcome to Haven Support

Haven Support was established on the Isle of Wight in 2019 but has been years in the planning. Rather than just provide a respite and care service, the parents of a young man with learning disabilities had long thought that there was a need for a service that focused on supporting adults with autism and learning disabilities to really access and achieve in the local community.

Our Ethos

Whilst respite and care is an important part of our services, our goal is to place greater emphasis on supporting people to live purposeful, fulfilling and happy lives as independently as possible; either in the family home, supported accommodation or their own home.

Another vital requirement is for the people we support and their families and friends to know that they can approach and trust us and feel relaxed and happy with the support we provide. It is essential from the outset that we were are totally transparent and realistic with what we are able to offer as we know that if people are let down, then this has the potential to lead to high levels of anxiety. We provide a reliable service built on trust and a common goal for the people we support.

Our Approach

Here at Haven Support, we actively focus on supporting adults with learning disabilities to access the local community and achieve their goals. We recognise that people should have choice about where and with whom they live, and that people must be supported to be involved in their community as much or as little as they wish. We actively work with people who wish to maintain their involvement in their local community to ensure that they are not left isolated or forgotten

We support people with a wide range of needs including autism, moderate and complex learning disabilities and also challenging behaviours that may sometimes accompany these needs. Through the support we provide our aim is to open up new opportunities for a full and purposeful life and we actively encourage the people we support to develop new skills and work towards their personal goals and ambitions.

Our dedicated staff work hard to ensure that those we support feel safe and secure whilst actively encouraging positive risk-taking so that they can make their own constructive choices; enabling them to take part in the activities that they specifically want to do. No matter what activities the people we support wish to undertake, our staff enjoy the chance to get creative and work in collaboration with the people we support so that they can fulfil their aspirations and feel a sense of belonging.

Part of the support we undertake is to work towards enabling people with a learning disability and/or autism to gain the skills required to assist them to live a more independent life, perhaps aspiring to live in their own accommodation in the wider community.

We firmly believe that the people we support should be able to communicate their needs, have those needs met, are able to access the community to achieve their goals, have a purposeful and full life and feel safe and secure. Once these targets are met, we find that individuals we support are happy and fulfilled and that any incidents of challenging behaviours are greatly reduced and people’s quality of life proportionately improves.
